Don James dies from pancreatic cancer

Legendary Husky football coach Don James has passed away following a battle with pancreatic cancer. His diagnosis came just last month and very little has been discussed publicly since that time. He began chemotherapy after two surgeries confirmed the presence of a tumor on his pancreas.

Many people still don’t realize the gravity of this diagnosis. Resources are needed to improve diagnosis and treatment of this disease. As his final gift to us all, Don James’ legend will help bring awareness to the cause.

University of Washington softball national champions!

The University of Washington Women’s Softball Team just became the 2009 National Champions after defeating the Florida Gators 2-0 in a best of 3 series. This is the 1st time the University of Washington has won a National Championship at softball. I am currently a huge softball fan, thanks to this World Series I just watched over the past few days. Go Dawgs!

Jake Locker hurt

Jake Locker took a vicious hit to the helmet in the 2nd quarter of tonight’s game at Oregon State in Corvallis. This was an absolutely devastating moment for any member of Husky Nation. He lay motionless on the field for a couple minutes before they rolled him over onto his back and removed the face mask from his helmet. They took him away in an ambulance and hopefully more information on his condition will be released soon. For now, all thoughts are with Jake and his family.

What a way to start!

Nobody really knew what to expect before the Washington Huskies got their season underway in Syracuse, New York against the Orangemen at the Carrier Dome. The novelty of being terrible has disappeared and Husky fans have long been ready to get things going in the other direction. It appears we have turned the corner after a 42-12 horsewhipping, yet I remain cautiously optimistic. Washington should be very happy with the win, but the schedule will prove increasingly more difficult as the season rolls along.

A college football expert picked Syracuse to beat the favored Huskies on KJR-AM on Friday morning, which did not sit well with a lot of listeners. He had me believing that another disappointment could be knocking at my front door. By halftime, I forgot about this guy and started believing in my new favorite college football player, Jake Locker of Ferndale, Washington. He’s easy to believe in. What he pulled off on the field was almost unbelievable.

This Tacoma resident says keep an eye on Jake Locker and the Washington Huskies this year. They could really shock the experts who picked them to finish 9th in the Pac-10. I’ll take the under.
