Husky Misery
As far back as recorded history in my mind goes, the Apple Cup has been a special game.
The two teams go up and down, back and forth. This year, we are both horrible. Not horrible like the Seahawks, but REALLY horrible. Never before has anything quite this magnificently
awful existed in this ancient rivalry. Washington and Washington State are a combined 1-20 this season;
the Huskies are staring down their first winless season ever. My word.

Ready For Snow
To snow or not to snow.. that is the obsession. So many weather patterns, so
little time. Two snowflakes in the hand are better than two in the bush. Ask
not what your snowfall can do for you; ask what you can do for your snowfall.
My mind is elsewhere right now. Even my dog is burned out on sunshine.

Multi-Year, Multi-Town Reunion
Friday night was different. We've all been to a reunion or two by now, but this one was multi-school, multi-class and 100% planned and organized online. What started as a whimsical idea over a glass of wine one minute became a full-fledged Lakewood, WA reunion attended by dozens of people. We had our own room at The Harmon Hub in the Stadium District and later moved down to Doyle's. Popular opinion seems to be that we will be doing this again. Anyone thinking about planning this sort of thing should definitely utilize social networking forums. Easy as pie!

Reason Taking Over
Well, it's been a week now, and the world is still spinning. Barack Obama is not in office yet, granted, but the doom n' gloom reactions seem to have already fizzled. A staunch righty friend of mine hasn't even mentioned the election in days, and a friend in Norway seems to think the global perception of the U.S. is on the rise, thanks to the recent outcome. It's going to continue to unfold and I look forward to watching it all from my comfortable chair here in Tacoma, WA.

Under The Microscope
It appears that Barack Obama is going to be ultra-scrutinized for the next few
months, if not years. He's already been criticized for CALLING HIMSELF a
"mutt". People really need to get a grip. And Barack needs to be
unreasonably careful about what he says. Luckily, he's the most eloquent
speaker of our time, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem once he gets used
to the new role.

Econolection
Barack Obama is the President Elect of the United States. He will
be our first black President. This is a huge deal. The stock market has
lost almost 1000 points since the election a few days ago. People are so
afraid of paying a little more capital gains tax in the future that they are willing to jump ship
now, contributing to the tanking of the markets. This makes... NO sense.
The election is being blamed for the current downturn, and this week's negative
economic indicators (e.g. housing markets, mortgages, unemployment) are getting
a free pass. Silly conservatives!

Barack Obama Wins Election - First Black President of the United States
Frigid winds. That pretty much sums up my 45-minute "voter suppression"
queue outside Mason United Methodist Church at 11am this morning. Luckily
I was able to score the shorter M-Z line. I even got to vote next to
Tacoma Mayor Bill Baarsma, and News Tribune writer Peter Callaghan - it was a
memorable voting experience for me, deep in the heart of a liberal voting
district, this 4th of November, 2008.
