Jack-O-Lanterns
Could've used a lot more sleep, but I'm tired for a good cause. I hear trick-or-treater's love jack-o-lanterns, although some people are really only in it for the pumpkin seeds.-AP

Disemboweled PumpkinsTime to prepare for the annual All Hallow's Eve festivities. Pumpkin guts everywhere? Check. Long exposure camera experiments? Check.-AP

Economy CoasterThe stock market currently resembles a roller coaster at Six Flags amusement park. The trickle down from Wall Street to Main Street has begun. Anyone interested in opening a business in Tacoma? Vacant commercial real estate is turning up everywhere. For now, only the strong will survive.-AP

Road Construction - The Bad KindDid I mention a flagger below? That's probably because they are everywhere. Anyone try driving around town the past few months? The amount of road construction going on is whacko. Especially busy work zones include the art district, most of North 30th near old town and the entire Stadium district.-AP

LeavesUpon being stopped by a flagger, I turn to my left and notice... leaves on the ground at Wright Park. The assault is on. My yard is going to be buried in wet leaves sooner rather than later.-AP

UPS Kids Are BackAutumn quarter at the University of Puget Sound is in full swing. Our favorite north end neighborhood university is buzzing with people and vehicles again. It seems more like spring than fall until you notice that the trees and ivy have swapped colors.-AP

Tree FallsMy pal Erik Weis just sent photos of a substantial tree that fell right next to his house last night. This is the third local tree I've seen down this year. Once again, a seemingly healthy tree drops at the hand of modest wind. Protect the women and children near you by carefully inspecting any large trees near your home for disease or noticeable weakness.-AP

Making MessesAlthough I misplaced a lens cap for an hour and a half earlier, I try to focus my energy on the positives. It seems the absurd spider population is increasingly dormant. However, leaf machines near you are soon to fire up! Huge trees will cover nearby streets with all their leaves, usually over a 2 to 3-day period. My dogwood tree will give a strong effort of its own, nearly covering 1/2 my driveway on a good year. At least the dog crap in the yard is getting to be a huge mess..-AP

CoolAny confusion surrounding the current season has been put to rest. It's officially fall. Get ready to fall back, because 4 o'clock darkness is just around the corner. All you seasonal affect disorders, start your engines.-AP

Time Capsule DefenseDon't be like that, KA! First of all, you should be coming to a guy like me for Harbor Lights' phone number, or Safeway's address, or even the location of the public pea patch garden, but not political views. Since you have chosen the latter, I will clarify.. I have chosen this life in micro-media for one reason: to opine my crazy brand of blathering from the mountain tops without the risk of potential censorship from anything or anyone. To be honest, your email was uplifting at 5:30am. When it comes to strangers such as yourself, I strongly prefer contrarian angles rather than the "ya, I agree" drivel. I guess what I'm trying to say is, "thank you for your opinion." With your email and a pot of strong coffee by my side, this morning is off to a rip-roaring start. Let's meet back here after the VP candidates' debate. And for the record, John McCain, like myself, is a great man who should not be President.-AP

Upset With Time CapsuleWhat's with the [liberal] time capsule entry? Are you practicing the tolerance you probably preach? Nice way to turn off half your neighbors who probably wont come back to your site... (response to 9/13/08 entry)-KA |
